COVID-19 Service Update

As a valued member of the XOCEAN community, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones well during this difficult time.

At XOCEAN, using our Unmanned Surface Vessels, we continue to support our clients on essential and safety critical operations. Our entire team are working remotely with our USV Pilots and Online Surveyors all delivering 24/7 survey operations from their home offices.

Below you will find details on a selection of projects that have been successfully completed during the pandemic without the need for travel or offshore personnel.

 

XOCEAN Delivers Ground Breaking Offshore Wind Farm Surveys for SSE & innogy

In a first for the offshore wind sector, XOCEAN has completed two unmanned survey operations on the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm, a joint venture between SSE Renewables and innogy.

The initial survey of 7 turbine foundations in January was performed in challenging conditions with maximum wave heights exceeding 2.5m. The quality of the data collected was of the highest standard demonstrating the versatility of the system. A subsequent survey of 31 turbine foundations and 8 inter-array cables was completed in April.

On both projects, the USV was mobilised out of Lowestoft and transited 60km unaccompanied to the Wind Farm. On arrival, survey operations were performed on a 24hr basis over multiple days with the USV Pilots and Surveyors managing the vessel remotely from their home offices in Ireland and the UK.

Jeremy Williamson, SSE Renewables Head of Operations, said: “We are constantly looking for innovative ways in which we can operate our fleet of renewables assets. XOCEAN’s vessel will allow us to carry out our work in a more efficient, and most importantly for SSE Renewables and our partners innogy, in the safest way possible. Data Harvesting Operations for A/S Norske Shell on Ormen Lange in Norway

X-07 Departing Kristiansund, Norway for 120km Ormen Lange Transit

XOCEAN and Sonardyne have successfully completed a live seabed-to-shore data harvesting mission for A/S Norske Shell in 800 – 1,100m of water on the giant Ormen Lange field 120km off the Norwegian coast.

The mission was completed remotely with XOCEAN’s USV Pilots in Ireland, Sonardyne’s specialists in the UK, and Shell’s geophysicists in Norway and the US, all working from their home offices.

Shaun Dunn, Sonardyne’s Global Business Manager for Exploration and Surveillance said, “We have always been big advocates of collecting data from our subsea instruments remotely using autonomous platforms. This technology is now coming of age and makes complete sense when thinking about the environment, the safety of offshore personnel and minimising cost. What’s more, thanks to the low hull and propulsion noise USVs can achieve, the data gathering is also faster, adding further to the efficiencies of this approach.”

Winter Survey in Trinidad

X-05 on Close Shore Approach off Galeota Point, Trinidad

During January, XOCEAN completed a route survey on behalf of MMT and Reach Subsea off the coast of Trinidad.

The USV was shipped from Ireland in a standard 20ft container before mobilisation in Galeota Port. The survey scope included Multibeam Echo Sounder, Sub Bottom Profiler and Side Scan Sonar in water depths ranging from 1.0m to 30.0m.

XOCEAN Goes 100% Carbon Neutral

Ultra-Low Emission XO-450 Surveying of the West Coast of Scotland for MCA/UKHO

XOCEAN recently broke new ground becoming the first fully carbon neutral survey company. XOCEAN’s USVs have always had a negligible carbon footprint producing one thousandth of the emissions of a conventional survey vessel. However, we are now going further and are offsetting all carbon used in the delivery of our projects resulting in fully carbon neutral survey data.

XOCEAN is currently commissioning X-08 and X-09 which are due to enter service in May. Hull numbers X-10 to X-12 are currently in build for delivery Summer 2020 as we continue to expand our fleet.
