Position: Senior Control Systems Engineer

Qualification: 3rd Level Qualification in an Engineering/Software/IT discipline

Location: Rathcor, opportunity for some remote work after 6 months (20%)

Main Office: Rathcor, Co. Louth, Rep. of Ireland.

About XOCEAN

XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).

Overview

The successful candidate will be involved in the continuous development of XOCEAN’s USV Control System. They will work with Hardware, Electrical / Mechanical systems, and Control devices such as PLCs, Edge IPCs to develop new and improved functionality for our USV Fleet and next generation systems.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Taking the lead to Develop solutions fully, from concept phase to full implementation.
  • Liaise closely with end users and stakeholders to achieve best possible solutions.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of current control system architecture and functionality.
  • Managing/Executing tasks efficiently and transparently.
  • Troubleshoot Systems to Identify Issue root causes.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation on all projects.
  • Provide mentoring to Junior engineers.
  • Apply revision control methods to all developments.
  • Prepare and deliver training materials for various user groups within XOCEAN.

Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and Experience

  • 3rd Level Qualification in an Engineering/Software/IT discipline
  • 5+ Years in a Controls Engineering role.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLCs – Studio 5000.
  • General experience with Controls/Electrical Systems
  • Ability to manage time independently, tasked with short term reactionary duties as well as long term strategic projects

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Ignition Platform
  • Experience with Cloud Architectures (Microsoft Azure/AWS Preferred)
  • Marine system experience
