XOCEAN announces further expansion in Australia

Opening of new Melbourne Technical Centre

DUBLIN – July 9 2024 – XOCEAN, the leading provider of carbon-neutral ocean data, has today announced the opening of a new technical centre in Melbourne, Australia. This announcement follows the recent news that XOCEAN secured €30 million in funding to accelerate the company’s growth internationally and drive further technical innovation.

The new Melbourne Technical Centre provides a state-of-the-art operational hub for the company’s growing fleet of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). Over the past 12 months, XOCEAN has doubled its headcount to 250 employees and plans to increase this number to 500 within the next two years. As XOCEAN establishes its presence in Australia, it is seeking passionate professionals for various roles, including hydrographic data processors, surveyors, and marine pilots.

This ambitious growth strategy reflects XOCEAN’s commitment to scaling its operations and capabilities to meet the increasing demand for high quality data services across industries such as Offshore Wind, Civil Hydrography and Carbon Capture and Storage.

XOCEAN’s mission is to deliver data that supports the sustainable development of our oceans. Founded in 2017, XOCEAN is revolutionising ocean data delivery using low-impact robotics to collect large volumes of ocean data to the highest industry standards.

The global blue economy is experiencing substantial growth driven by industries such as offshore wind. However, the data to support this growth is difficult to acquire. XOCEAN has developed a fleet of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) that can remain offshore for extended periods, collecting large volumes of ocean data. Operators and data analysts remain safely located onshore, connected to the vessels via satellite link. This smarter and scalable approach to ocean data delivery is safer, cost-effective, and ultra-low impact.

XOCEAN has delivered data to many of the world’s largest renewable energy companies, operating in 22 jurisdictions and harvesting over 4 million gigabytes of high-quality data. This data has already supported the development of 43.1GW’s of new offshore wind capacity. XOCEAN also serves multiple other industries and government agencies with their data needs.

The company’s carbon-neutral technology will prevent the emission of one million tons of carbon over the next five years, with its fleet of vessels emitting just 0.1% of the CO2 of conventional vessels.

Commenting on the visit, Tim Mawe, Ambassador of Ireland to Australia said: “XOCEAN’s expansion into Australia represents a significant milestone not only for the company but also for strengthening the economic and technological ties between Ireland and Australia. This move underscores the innovative spirit and global ambition of Irish enterprises. I am thrilled to see XOCEAN bring their cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices to Australia, and I look forward to the positive impact this collaboration will have on our shared maritime interests”

James Ives, CEO, XOCEAN said “We’re delighted to announce the opening of our new Technical Centre here in Melbourne. XOCEAN continues to experience rapid growth, driven largely by the major expansion of the international offshore wind market and the need for clean, renewable energy globally. XOCEAN is delighted to be supporting many of the world’s largest energy companies through the delivery of safe, cost-effective and ultra-low-impact ocean data. The future looks set to be an exciting time for XOCEAN as we continue to grow our brilliant team and our fleet of USVs to meet growing market demands”.
